Today, we’re spotlighting Shawn Dunlop, Senior Solutions Engineer, whose deep automotive experience, hands-on technical insight, and customer-first approach help dealerships discover how AI can redefine the way they sell, serve, and scale.
Q: Tell us about your role at Matador.
As a Senior Solutions Engineer, my job is all about helping dealerships experience what’s possible with Matador. I lead product demos, dive into each dealer’s unique challenges, and show how Matador can help them sell more cars while working smarter. It’s exciting to be part of a team that’s changing how the auto industry communicates.
Q: What excites you most about working in automotive AI technology?
I love that we’re helping dealerships work smarter, not harder. Matador is changing the game in how stores connect with customers, and being able to show that in action every day is exciting. It’s awesome to see a dealer’s eyes light up when they realize what Matador can do for their team and their bottom line.
Q: Can you share a memorable moment or proud achievement since joining Matador?
One of my proudest moments was closing a deal with one of the largest dealership groups in the nation after they had been on the fence for months. By tailoring a custom demo and really digging into their processes, we showed them how Matador could solve real challenges for their team. Seeing them go live and immediately start seeing results was incredibly rewarding. Those “aha” moments make the job so satisfying.
Q: How does Matador’s culture influence your daily work experience?
What I love most about Matador’s culture is the mix of energy and support. Everyone’s genuinely passionate about what we’re building, and that enthusiasm is contagious. Whether it’s collaborating on a demo, sharing ideas, or celebrating wins, it feels like you’re part of a team that’s all rowing in the same direction
Q: What’s your favorite feature of the Matador platform, and why?
I love how flexible the platform is. Every dealership has its own way of doing things, and Matador can be tailored to fit those processes instead of forcing them to adapt to how other vendors need them to. It’s great to be able to show dealers that they can have AI that truly works their way. We essentially create their ultimate AI agent to their exact specs.
Q: Outside of work, what passions or hobbies energize you?
Outside of work I love to golf, or at least hit the driving range with my two daughters when I can’t hit the links. Mountain biking is another big passion of mine.
Q: Fun fact about you?
Before I got into the business side of automotive, I was actually a licensed tool and die maker for factories that specialized in auto parts manufacturing. After that, I went to school at the only automotive business school in Canada to start exploring the business side of the industry. Since then, I’ve worked for some of the largest players in this space, but I’ve never felt more at home than I do with Matador and the team I get to work with every day.
Shawn’s combination of technical expertise, industry experience, and genuine passion for helping dealerships thrive makes him a key part of Matador’s success.
